Electrolyser cost
Get latest insights into electrolyser cost by technology in Europe (EU27, EFTA and UK).
The datastream provides CAPEX (EUR/kW) and OPEX (EUR/kW/year) of an electrolyser system for projects based in Europe. The results are presented for two technologies: alkaline and PEM. The CAPEX are divided in four categories: stack, balance of plant (BoP), other utilities, and other CAPEX.
Reference year is 2024.
Note
The data aim to reflect a project of total size of 100 MWel that is in an advanced stage. It builds on results of an annual survey done by the industry. The real CAPEX costs are significantly depending on the scope of the different projects and equipment used.
Assumptions
- The stack cost includes equipment, engineering, procurement, and installation of the stack.
- The balance of plant cost includes equipment, engineering, procurement, and installation of rectifier, transformer directly connected to the rectifier, gas/liquid separation, water/lye feeding, and gas purification.
- Other utilities costs include equipment, engineering, procurement, and installation of high voltage transformers, water treatment equipment, cooling, hydrogen compression (if necessary for the system), control system, and other services.
- The other CAPEX costs include land and grid fees, insurance, permitting, feasibility study, contingency, EPC management.
- Electricity is excluded from the OPEX.
