Energie salentine – Hydrogen - H2-4D-PugliaValley (IT02)
Hydrogen - H2-4D-PugliaValley
The project “Hydrogen - H2-4D-PugliaValley” is executed by Energie Salentine S.p.A., an Italian company belonging to Green Value S.p.A. (www.greenvaluespa.eu) – a financial holding investing in green energy – and EN.IT S.p.A. (www.enitspa.it) an industrial group operating in renewable energy sector.
The primary goal of the "Hydrogen - H2-4D-PugliaValley" initiative is to develop an integrated, large-scale green hydrogen production system, leveraging cutting-edge solar, wind, and electrolysis technologies. The project includes the installation of 452 MW of hydrogen production plants, complemented by advanced compression and storage systems. This will ensure open and non-discriminatory access for all industrial off-takers interested in utilizing the hydrogen produced. The electrolysis plants are expected to generate approximately 45,000 tons of hydrogen per year.
An additional key strategic benefit of this project is its contribution to stabilising the Italian national grid by providing flexible operation of the electrolysers.
Hydrogen production will take place in two identified areas in the Apulia region of Italy; Taranto and Brindisi. 400 MW of electrolysis capacity will be installed in Taranto, while another 52 MW will be in Brindisi. The connection and interoperability with other two IPCEI projects in the same area allow to operate and manage the two hydrogen production sites as a unique plant. The project has a duration of 33 years, starting with the engineering and construction phase in 2025. Hydrogen production is expected to start in last quarter of 2027 and continue until 2057.
