Linde – Green Hydrogen Hub Leuna (DE63)
Green Hydrogen Hub Leuna (DE63)
Linde GmbH (Linde) is a leading industrial gas end engineering company and one of largest hydrogen suppliers in Germany. Linde GmbH is part of the Linde plc, an 1879 founded global player of the industrial gases and engineering sector with >65.000 employees and 2024 sales of $33 billion (€29 billion, large enterprise). Linde is producing already air gases as well as hydrogen in Leuna, one of Linde's largest production sites in Europe.
Linde is planning to build, operate and integrate a 100MW – possibly with stacks from different suppliers - electrolyser system nearby or at the Leuna site to produce green hydrogen to be used 100% by third parties such as in Leuna chemical park as well as in adjacent chemical and industrial parks: connected through a Linde owned pipeline, more than 20 H2 users currently using conventional hydrogen will have the opportunity to use green H2. The existing Linde customer structure, the Linde owned pipeline and the trailer filling and liquefaction option allow here a fast replacement of grey hydrogen by green hydrogen.
Leuna represents in our view a unique site for first mover green hydrogen projects as it allows 1, to leverage local and regional H2 applications and 2, offers the chance to feed into the European Hydrogen Backbone once it has been created. This will allow and connections to Salzgitter, Hamburg/Brunsbüttel, Ruhr Area, Benelux and further hence leading to an international spillover and widespread use cases for Green H2. Thus, the Leuna cluster represents a cornerstone of the European green H2 production as well as the European H2 backbone.
