HyTechHafen Rostock (DE64)

Rostock EnergyPort cooperation GmbH (REPCO) is a Joint Venture between Rostock Port, RWE, EnBW, and RheinEnergie. The primary objective of REPCO is to manage the planning and construction process of the HyTechHafen Rostock project as well as operating the electrolyser. With that, REPCO seeks to establish a green hydrogen production plant and a European distribution hub on the German Baltic coast line in the Rostock Port area.

Overall, REPCO is committed to the development of sustainable and environmentally friendly solutions and is well-positioned to contribute significantly to the energy transition in Germany and beyond.

The project HyTechHafen Rostock aims at the construction of an electrolyser with a capacity of 100 MW at the Rostock seaport site and an average annual output of more than 8,000 tonnes of renewable hydrogen. The site has the potential to realise more MW through upscaling processes in the near future. A pipeline connection will link the electrolyser to the German hydrogen start net as part of the upcoming European Hydrogen Backbone. An added value for further potential consumers is achieved through the construction of a filling station which enables transport via trailer. That will make renewable hydrogen available to other regional customers who do not have a connection to pipeline infrastructures.

HyTechHafen Rostock will be realised next to an existing coal-fired power plant, which is located in the seaport of Rostock, a universal deepsea port at the Baltic Sea. Given the specific location, the project can make use of the diverse infrastructure already available on site.

The Project has started on 1st January 2023. The basic engineering phase as well as approval planning is already completed.  Application documents for approval has been submitted in August 2025. Construction will start in 2026 and it is planned to start test operation by the end of 2028.
