Winpower – PtX Sines (PT11)
PtX Sines (PT11)
The PtX Sines project is developed by the company Winpower. Devoted to the energy market, Winpower covers the entire value chain, dealing with a broad spectrum of technologies and solutions. Winpower has 30+ year accumulated experience on the development and construction of industrial-scale Power generation facilities, design and engineering, as well as installation, commissioning and operation & maintenance. Winpower studies, executes and manages efficient and reliable projects and solutions in virtually all areas where the European roadmap for hydrogen estimates impacts: generation, transport, heating and energy for industry and e-fuels.
Winpower’s PtX Sines project will install large scale Renewable Hydrogen generation capacity, with 160 MW electrolysis. The renewable electricity supply will be assured by solar PV and wind projects in the region, as well as through the national grid.
The produced hydrogen will be delivered to local industrial offtakers, some of which with the intention to export to other European regions. Nearby mobility projects will also be supplied by the PtX Sines project.
The project will be connected to the Sines Hydrogen backbone ring, to be installed by the Portuguese TSO, an integrating infrastructure to link most H2 producing and consuming projects in the Sines region (including LOHC, liquefaction, methanation and ammonia production, options also considered for exports), as well as connect to the national gas grid, as backup for eventual surplus production, part of the future European Hydrogen Backbone.
PtX Sines is located in Sines, an important industrial and technological hub, with deep water port and proper infrastructure, in Portugal. Project implementation considers a 48-month period, from Q1 2024. Full operation is intended to be in place in 2028.
