Nowega – GET H2 IPCEI (DE56)
GET H2 (DE56)
Nowega GmbH (Nowega) is a gas transmission system operator which operates and markets around 1,500 kilometres of high-pressure gas pipelines on a non-discriminatory basis. Nowega is subject to German and European gas market regulation and is certified as an independent Transmission System Operator (TSO).
The objective of the project “GET H2 IPCEI” is to contribute to decarbonisation targets by acting as a first mover in the creation of a European H2 market. H2 producers and H2 consumers can only take positive investment decisions if a reliable, non-discriminatory European H2 infrastructure exists linking sites favorable for H2 production to large industry clusters across Europe.
To enable rapid implementation as well as European scale-up, Nowega has joined forces with BP Europa SE, Evonik Operations GmbH, Open Grid Europe GmbH, Salzgitter Flachstahl GmbH, RWE Gas Storage West GmbH, RWE Generation SE and Thyssengas GmbH in the “GET H2 IPCEI” consortium, which pursues the objective to set-up a first integrated, self-sustaining H2 value chain.
Therefore, Nowega will build a total of 203 km of H2 pipeline infrastructure between 2025 and 2027 to create a connection from Lingen to Marl. The further expansion of this network by 2030 is planned with ~450 km and will enable a connection to Salzgitter.
