Ontras – Green Octupus Mitteldeutschland (DE71)
Green Octopus Mitteldeutschland (GO!)
Central to a thriving hydrogen economy is a transport network that links hydrogen import sites or producers to consumers and provides access to potential storage facilities. Through its ONTRAS hydrogen network (ONTRAS H2-Startnetz), ONTRAS is establishing the foundation for a reliable and efficient hydrogen infrastructure in Eastern Germany. ONTRAS operates the 7,700-kilometre long pipeline network in eastern Germany and is responsible for the reliable and efficient transport of gaseous energy - today and in the future. ONTRAS is actively shaping the development of a German hydrogen network, integrated into the European hydrogen infrastructure.
As a constituent of the ONTRAS H2-Startnetz, Green Octopus Mitteldeutschland is creating the future transport route and storage option for green hydrogen for the Central German chemical triangle and industrial centres in Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and neighbouring Lower Saxony. With around 300 kilometres of pipelines, GO! will ensure the safe transport of hydrogen between Leuna, the Halle-Leipzig metropolitan region, Magdeburg, the Helmstädter mining region and the Salzgitter steel region. Additionally, GO! provides access to the future hydrogen storage facility of VNG Gasspeicher GmbH.
Connected to other hydrogen pipelines, GO! integrates the links in the value chain into the Germany-wide core network and thus the growing European Hydrogen Backbone. The connected cavern storage facility in Bad Lauchstädt with a working gas volume of 50 million cubic metres stabilises the hydrogen infrastructure and ensures a balance between supply and demand. Commissioning will take place from 2027.
