GET H2 IPCEI (DE26)

Thyssengas GmbH (Thyssengas) is a German gas transmission system operator (TSO) with 4,400 km pipeline infrastructure, mainly located in North Rhine-Westphalia (north-west Germany). The company is connected to national and international transmission system operators (connection points in Belgium, the Netherlands and to the Northsea-pipeline out of Norway) and has extensive experience in the operation, maintenance, and serving of gas-infrastructure. 

To enable a fast European scale-up and market ramp-up of hydrogen, Thyssengas has joined forces with BP Europa SE, Evonik Operations GmbH, Open Grid Europe GmbH, Salzgitter Flachstahl GmbH, RWE Gas Storage West GmbH, RWE Generation SE and Nowega GmbH in the “GET H2 IPCEI” consortium, which is pursuing the goal of establishing the first integrated, self-sustaining hydrogen value chain. 

Thyssengas' project which is performed by the Thyssengas H2 GmbH comprises within the GET H2 IPCEI as transmission system operator, the construction and conversion of a 99,6 km (72,93 km length weighted by ownership share) long H2 infrastructure as well as the construction of gas pressure regulating and metering units in Dorsten and Emlichheim. 

In particular, Thyssengas realises the cross-border connection point in Vlieghuis, where Thyssengas connects the GET H2 network with that of the H2 transmission system operator Gasunie / HyNetwork Service in the Netherlands. By connecting to the network of Nowega GmbH, Thyssengas' pipeline system also enables the connection for industrial companies in Lower Saxony. Furthermore, via the jointly operated pipeline with Open Grid Europe GmbH to Duisburg, Thyssengas enables the H2 supply for a variety of potential off-takers in the industrial Rhine-Ruhr area in North Rhine-Westphalia. 

In this respect, thyssenkrupp Steel Europe AG is foreseen to be one amongst several industrial customers. Thus, the project makes a substantial contribution to the decarbonization of various industries and particularly the steel industry.
