Manufacture Française des Pneumatiques Michelin (FR22)
MICHELIN H2 MATERIAL SOLUTIONS (FR22)
Pioneering engineered materials for more than 130 years, Michelin is uniquely positioned to make decisive contributions to human progress and to a more sustainable world. Drawing on its deep know-how in polymer composites, Michelin is constantly innovating to manufacture high-quality tires and components for critical applications in demanding fields as varied as mobility, construction, aeronautics, low-carbon energies, and healthcare.
The goal of the project Michelin H2 Material Solutions is to develop and produce Catalyst Coated Membranes (CCM) for automotive applications (PEM-Fuel Cells) and for hydrogen production (AEM-Electrolysers Cells) with three concomitant challenges:
- Performance improvement, specifically durability and efficiency.
- New design orientation on sustainable materials especially on fluorous-polymers content reduction by replacing the traditional PFSA and PTFE.
- Cost reduction of the CCM by reduction of Platinum and Iridium catalysts for both Fuel cells and electrolysers applications as well as reduction of the manufacturing cost.
The project activities take mainly place in Clermont-Ferrand in France.
