GEN-HY CUBE (FR21)
GEN-HY CUBE (FR21)
Gen-Hy Cube is a joint venture between Gen-Hy, a French start-up specialising in green hydrogen production, Eiffage Énergie Systèmes, and Saint-Gobain, a leader in sustainable materials. Based in Montbéliard, France, the company focuses on manufacturing innovative Anion Exchange Membrane (AEM) electrolysers. Leveraging Gen-Hy’s patented Zero Gap® technology, Gen-Hy Cube produces modular, scalable hydrogen production units. These units, designed for applications in mobility, industry, and energy storage, utilise abundant, low-cost materials, avoiding rare metals. By combining expertise in green hydrogen and advanced materials, Gen-Hy Cube aims to deliver cost-effective, high-purity hydrogen solutions to support decarbonisation across various industries.
Gen-Hy Cube project focuses on advancing hydrogen production technology for mobility applications, specifically in the development of membrane formulations, catalyst-coated membranes (CCMs) and electrolysers. The project aims to create efficient, scalable, and cost-effective solutions for hydrogen production and utilization, making hydrogen technology more accessible and sustainable.
During the reporting period, Gen-Hy Cube achieved several significant milestones. The project successfully developed membrane formulations and PGM-free (Platinum Group Metal-free) catalyst deposits for CCMs on a lab scale. This advancement is crucial for reducing the cost and increasing the efficiency of hydrogen electrolysers and allow a large buildup of production facility, allowing the deployment of multiple HRS with on-site production capacities.
In 2024, Gen-Hy Cube initiated the construction of a state-of-the-art factory in Allenjoie, France, with an inauguration in 2025. The factory will feature three different production lines, creating the project's production capabilities. Additionally, the project will establish an assembly line for 50 kW stacks, further strengthening its manufacturing infrastructure.
