Chemicals firm Evonik has announced that a more-than-50km green-hydrogen pipeline in western Germany is now ready to begin operation.

The pipeline, which is part of the GET H2 project, stretches between the Marl Chemical Park — the third largest chemicals site in Germany — and the Ruhr Oel refinery in Gelsenkirchen, which is currently owned by BP.

Evonik had converted a 41km former natural gas pipeline to carry H2, as well as building 13km of new hydrogen pipelines.
